Benjamin Lorch is the host of Step One.  He was raised on radio and perpetually listening because he knows that good stories allow us to inhabit the experiences of others and simultaneously learn something about ourselves.  Lorch is an alumnus of the The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program.  If Ben is hungry, make him a taco.  If you want to find Ben, look for him on Tempelhofer Feld.

Jelena Prtoric is a freelance journalist reporting most often on and from southeastern Europe.  She has published in French, English, Croatian and Italian -- print, web and radio -- focusing mainly on human rights, culture, politics and the environment.  Jelena is interested in creative technologies, feminism and all things Soviet.  She loves graphic novels, drawing, photography and the sea.  If Jelena is thirsty give her wine.  Jelena is an alumnus of the Robert Bosch Foundation Reporters in the Field Program.  You can follow Jelena on Twitter: @yellena_p

The Step One Origin Story

In Autumn of 2017 Jelena, Benjamin and Yannic met in New York City.  Podcasting was on their minds.  Ten international journalists and podcasting enthusiasts had gathered for the Bosch Alumni Network Study Trip: NYC, Capital of Podcasting.  The rolling symposium was organized by Thomas Reintjes and Jelena.  Over four intense days full of meetings and introductions the group covered the city to met with top players in the podcasting production world.

Back in Berlin, three months later, it was time to take the next step.  Yannic, Jelena and Ben presented a new idea to the International Alumni Center (iac Berlin): tell the stories of the Bosch Alumni Network via a new independent podcast.  The iac Berlin supported the initiative and the Step One podcast was born.

The first episode of Step One dropped on September 1st, 2018.
Five more episodes will follow through the end of the year.
Remember, the next step is always step one . . . so stay tuned.
